It was such a privilege to travel to Yantia China in June 2016 for the International Gourmand World Cookbook Awards. Our Gourmet Pilgrim cookbook Mexico, was shortlisted in the category Best Latin American Cuisine cookbook published outside Latin America. We DID IT! A talented Australian team — food writers Richard Cornish and Kendall Hill, my fabulous fun and passionate recipe researcher and fellow "cookie" Dimitra Stais and the talented photographers of all the food images Andre Martin and Benito Martin.
This event was extraordinary and in my option it was equivalent to the Olympic Games - over 40 nations of passionate food people and cookbook authors (many self-published). In the short week we shared I now have friends from Cyprus, New Zealand, Sweden, Mauritius, India, Phillipines, Canada, Spain, Morocco, France and many more. Together we shared this incredible experience and whilst on a few occasions the language may have been a barrier, when we ate and enjoyed the food we did not need words....
